Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are polysaccharides with a structure consisting of repeated disaccharides containing glycosamine and uronic acid. All GAGs other than hyaluronic acid possess sulfate bases, and exist in living organisms in the form of proteoglycans covalently bonded to core proteins. Sulfated GAGs are present in large quantities in cartilage, skin, kidney, lung, brain, and aortic tissue, among others, and play important roles in the functioning of these tissues. The Sulfated GAG Quantitation Kit allows easy quantification of sulfated GAGs in tissues such as cartilage, cultured chondrocytes, and chondrocyte culture solution, and is ideal for use in cartilage research and other fields.
